The Basics: Meeting Structure by National Coordinator Alfredo

JUNTOS group meeting:

Before we say what a typical JUNTOS group meeting is like, it will be better to understand what JUNTOS does. JUNTOS’ mission is to promote positive behaviors, train youth leaders and activists, and reduce numbers of HIV/AIDS and Malaria, especially amongst Mozambican youth. Other topics of group discussions include self-esteem, leadership, gender equality, safe sex practices, future planning, puberty, reproductive health, pregnancy, violence, and many more.  We accomplish our goals through cultural expression and strong community-driven, culturally rich activities.  

A typical JUNTOS meeting starts with an ice break activity, of which some of the activities/games are mentioned in the JUNTOS manual/handout (but not limited to these). Most of the startup activities include name games. These games give the group members a chance to know each other in a funny way. On the first meeting the introduction of the facilitators is very important. This can also be followed by establishing rules for the group. These rules should come from the group members (with a guide from the facilitators). 

Soon after the introductions the facilitators are supposed to introduce one of the different topics from the JUNTOS manual/handout. There is no order or restriction to follow on the topics hence facilitators are free to add whatever they think is necessary for the development of their groups and should use the manual/handout as a guide. It is advised for the facilitators to put some games (found in the manual/handout but not limited to those) between their different sessions to make the learning funny. 

The sessions should end with a game or two. You might try the group members; you will be surprised to see how many beautiful/funny games they have. You should let the one with the game to explain the game rules first before playing.  

O Encontro do Grupo de JUNTOS:

Antes de falarmos sobre como o encontro de grupo JUNTOS parece melhor falarmos o que se faz no JUNTOS. A missão de JUNTOS é para promover a mudança positiva de comportamento e reduzir a incidência de HIV/SIDA and Malaria, especialmente nas populações de jovens moçambicanos, através da expressão cultural. Nós pretendemos realizar esta meta através do desenvolvimento e aproveitamento de liderança e comunicação nos jovens. Também, queremos reforçar a capacidade de identificar as tradições culturais e discriminação de gênero.

Um encontro típico de JUNTOS começa com um quebra-gelo, das quais as actividades/jogos estão descritas no manual de JUNTOS (mas não limitado a estes somente). Muitos dos jogos iniciais incluem jogos de nomes. Estes jogos dão os membros de grupo a chance de se conhecerem duma maneira divertido. No primeiro encontro a intridução dos facilitadores é importante. Depois da apresentação do facilitador segue o estabelecimento de regras do grupo. Estas regras devem vir dos membros do grupo (com uma observação dos facilitadores).

Logo depois da apresentação, os facilitadores devem introduzir um dos temas do manual de JUNTOS. Não há ordem para seguir nem restrições das materias a serem dados pois os facilitadores são livres para aumentar o que pensam que será útel para o desenvolvimento  do seu grupo. Os facilitadores são encoragados a inserir jogos (encontrados no manual de JUNTOS mas não limitado a estes somente) entre as suas sessões para fazer com que aa sessões fiquem divertidos.

As sessões devem terminar com um jogo ou dois. Pode até tentar com os membros do grupo; vai se surprender ver os jogos lindo e divertidos que eles têm. Deixa o membro com o jogo explicar as regras do jogo antes de jogar.
